Facebook Will Curtail Unpaid Ads by Brands

The Facebook landscape is changing for brands. The company says starting in January, brands that use free public posts for advertising will be filtered to a lower status in users' feeds. Facebook is taking a stance that users value great content from their friends, and if brands want to advertise in that same space, they need to purchase ad space.

The social network announced that starting in January, it would change the rankings of some posts made by marketers, such as pitches to install a new mobile app or tune into a TV show, to reduce the number that appear in the news feeds of its 1.35 billion global users.
